Automotive News recognizes executives' accomplishments in special issue: 100 Leading Women in the North American Auto Industry

PR Newswire

DETROIT, Nov. 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Automotive News has named 100 Leading Women in the North American Auto Industry.  The group of influential executives is highlighted in today's special edition of Automotive News and will be honored at a gala celebration tonight at the Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center in Detroit, Mich. This exciting event will celebrate these women and capture the attention of the leaders in all sectors of the auto industry.

The list of 100 leading women recognizes leaders in the automotive field – those who make major decisions and have significant influence at their companies.  The 2015 class emerged from a months-long nomination and judging process that attracted hundreds of entries from the United States, Canada and Mexico.

This year's honorees come from 54 companies and 14 disciplines — from manufacturers to engineers, dealer principals to designers.

Today's special issue of Automotive News salutes each leading woman with a career profile and photograph.  The issue also includes stories about women's increasing role in the automotive arena.  (A complete list of the 100 Leading Women in the North American Auto Industry follows.)

"A comparison of the 2015 and 2010 Automotive News lists of 100 Leading Women in the North American Auto Industry confirms that the status of women in the industry has improved. There are six CEOs among automakers and suppliers on the list this time, up from two in 2010 — the last time the list was compiled.  Among the 2015 honorees, 73 have executive officer titles or are owners of their companies.  That's up from 63," said Mary Beth Vander Schaaf, Automotive News managing editor and editor of the special issue.

Automotive News will recognize each executive on stage in front of Monday evening's gala audience of 900.  The honorees are engaged in such automotive disciplines as design, engineering, finance, information technology, management, manufacturing, marketing, assembly plant management, purchasing, quality, safety and sales.

Deloitte is the exclusive lead sponsor for the issue and event.  Other gold sponsors are:  Ally Financial, AutoNation, Cars.com, Cox Automotive, FCA US, Ford Motor Co., GKN Driveline, General Motors, Heidrick & Struggles, IBM, Inforum, Inteva Products, Magna International, National Automobile Dealers Association, Original Equipment Suppliers Association, Reynolds and Reynolds, Shinola, Toyota and UAW.

Automotive News published the first list of the industry's top female executives in 2000.  A complete list of all four classes of 100 Leading Women in the North American Auto Industry is available at www.autonews.com/leadingwomen.

Since 1925, Automotive News has been the primary source for news happening among automotive retailers, suppliers and manufacturers. Distinct from other publications in the field, Automotive News remains a fully subscriber-paid publication, a testament to the value it delivers to the reader.
